What is art?

A very elaborate human mind activity that connects dots in a special and unique way. Nature doesn't need art. It's a social phenomenon that creates beauty where apparently there's none.

Why New York?

I was born in Rome and I felt lucky because of the beauty I was surrounded with; then I moved to London and felt at the center of Europe. I know it may sound like a cliché, but here in New York I feel at the center of world, as if there's a big spotlight here and the rest of the world is paying attention. That doesn't mean the contents under the spotlight are always good. It means that if you do something good you know you will have attention.

Best advice for other artists wanting to move to New York?

I'd like to say that actually you can start a music career every where, just by posting songs on internet and seeing where your songs will bring you. Here there's an incredible high level of adrenaline and lots of amazing acts playing every night. Competition is high and some people are not meant for it. This is a place that will raise your standards for sure.

What advice would you give yourself 12 months ago?

When my wife asked me 'do you think we need a dog?' the answer should have been 'no we don't'.
